This week, we are going to talk about how to eat passion fruit. Passion fruits are inedible when raw or slightly cooked, so most people do not taste them unless they either have a lot of experience with eating fruits or know what ingredients she would like to add into her food.
Many recipes call for one or two whole passion fruits as an ingredient because of this. When buying passion fruits make sure they look fresh and bright! They should not smell too strong or fermented.
There are several ways to eat a passion fruit. You can either use a spoon, cut it in half and suck out the juice, break it in half and wash down the seeds, mash it up and mix it into something else, or simply swallow the whole thing!
All these methods work but you want to be very careful if you choose to swallow your passion fruit whole. Make sure it does not contain any hairs that could get stuck in your throat. Also watch out for foam since some people may just love drinking the passion fruit’s leftover liquid.
Put the scooped fruit into a glass bowl
Now, you can either do it with the spoon method or using your hands! Either way, make sure to cut down the seeds if you choose the second option.
The first way is by putting the passion fruits in a serving dish and eating them off of that as you would berries like strawberries. This allows you to use the same utensils for each piece which is nice since you don’t have to start over.
But my favorite way to eat passion fruits is by biting into them and then licking your lips afterwards. The tangy flavor lingers and tastes delicious.
Pour boiling water over the fruit
After you pour the water, let the passion fruits sit for a few minutes to release its flavor. Once they are soft, drain them and mix them with the other ingredients in the serving dish!
Many recipes call for just half of a passion fruit per person, but we recommend only eating it if you like it because one can be pretty strong.
Let the fruit sit for a few minutes
After you cut it up, put it in a bowl or plate that contains your spoon or chopsticks. Leave it alone to soak its juices for a couple of minutes before eating it!
This gives the pulp some time to settle down and be consumed more easily. If you like crunchy bits, then try rubbing the seeds through a mesh sieve or using a fork to break them down.
Some people only like the taste of the very top layer of passion fruits so if this is the case, save the darker colored ones for later and eat just that part.
Eat the passion fruit
Now, let’s talk about how to eat your passion fruits! First of all, make sure they are fresh. If you find them at a grocery store or market, their seasonings may not be authentic so do check there before buying (although most taste the same).
If you can’t get enough of those beautiful berries, then try drying some of them yourself. Simply wash off any residual pulp, slice in half, and dry in the oven or on a baking sheet at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour. Let cool completely and pack away in an airtight container.
Try making a fruit salad with passion fruit
Mixing fruits in different textures and colors is an excellent way to enjoy many of your favorite foods! And what better way than by adding some flavor yourself? Adding flavoring into almost any food can totally change how much you like it, and eating something that tastes good is always a win.
Add one or two teaspoons of fresh passion fruit puree per half cup of berries (or use bottled passion fruit juice as needed) to create this delicious fruit salad.
If you love the tangy taste of passion fruit, then no additional liquid should be required. If the drink already has some liquid, just stir it together until everything is mixed properly and enjoy your dessert!
This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled depending on how many people will be eating it. We recommend doing so since it does not require too much preparation time other than mixing the ingredients and leaving it to sit for the allotted time before serving.
Mix the fruit with yogurt
Now, you can mix the passion fruits into your breakfast or snack of choice! Simply add one cup of sliced fresh or dried berries to one cup of plain low fat Greek yogurt and eat it either as isor in a blender to create an easy dip or dessert option.
This recipe does not require cooking! If you like more flavor, you can add some vanilla to boost the taste.
Try making a fruit tart
If you are ever in need of some passion fruit, there are many ways to enjoy it! Most recipes call for eating the whole fruit by yourself, but if you want to get more out of this delicious flavor, trying making a pie or tart with all the leftover pieces.
You can either mix them into your oatmeal, yogurt, or juice, or use them in the recipe as an ingredient. The best way to eat fresh passion fruits is to cut each one in half and apply pressure to release the seeds, just like how you would squeeze a lemon.
Serve the fruit with cheese
Now, you can either eat it right away or store it in your refrigerator until you are ready to enjoy it. Either way is fine!
Passion fruits contain several vitamins such as vitamin A, C, B6, and magnesium. They also contain antioxidants like lycopene that help keep your heart healthy.
