How Passion Is Important In Life

December 19, 2022

It’s easy to think that passion is only for things like sports, or music, or literature. But passionate people are very focused on good subjects matter well beyond those boundaries.

Passionate individuals show strong interest in areas that seem outside of their normal scope. For example, someone who is really into sailing may also have a degree in engineering.

And while they might not work as hard at it as they do their own field, they can still appreciate the experience and value of learning about engines and boat design.

This doesn’t make them more intelligent than anyone else, but it does mean they invested in themselves by exploring different fields.

There's a reason we talk about people with strong passions having “lives full of meaning” — because they see the value in what they pursue.

It may be that they use their knowledge to create something new that changes the world for better or worse, but either way they don't go away feeling empty.

I've discussed this concept of importance before, so if you're looking for more information you can check out my article here.

But today I'd like to discuss how important passion is in our lives -- aside from all the other reasons it is.

Your passion should make you happy

how passion is important in life

We’ve already talked about how important it is to find your life mission, but there’s another way that passion plays an integral part in shaping who you are as a person.

This other idea comes down to something we call “passionization.” This word was coined by psychologist Mihaly (Misha) Csikszentmihályi back in the 1990s, and he defines it as "the process of replacing competence with passion." In his words, this means changing what you're doing to match your internal experiences — not because you feel like you have to, but because you want to.

The thing about passion is that it can easily go out of control. When this happens, it becomes quite difficult to separate yourself from it. You start thinking about it more and more often, and eventually you end up focusing all of your time and energy on it.

At this stage, even though you’re spending most of your day working on something that makes you feeling less than stellar inside, you don’t seem to be able to stop yourself from pursuing it.

Your passion should inspire others

If your life is not moving towards your dreams, then you are wasting your time here today. You have to love what you do, or else you will need to find something new to enjoy.

Passion gives you an emotional boost when you’re doing things that you love. It helps you feel good about yourself, and it can motivate you to keep going even if you don’t feel like it.

Having passion for your job means being motivated each day by how much you care about what you are doing. It makes you happy while you are working, which makes other people around you happier.

It also creates a feeling of self-confidence. When you love what you are doing, you are more likely to put in extra effort and stay focused on tasks instead of giving up.

If you no longer feel passionate about your work, ask yourself why.

You should always do your thing, even when you feel like it

We’ve discussed before how passion is important to life, but I want to give you some hard numbers that prove my point.

We all have different things we love doing, and everyone has their favorite way to spend their time.

But what if we were paid for spending our time doing something we enjoy? What if earning rewards for being passionate was a part of our job description?

That’s exactly what happens in this article! In fact, I will tell you about a company that offers just such an opportunity. And I will also talk about the importance of passion in your life, so keep reading.

Always try to do your best

how passion is important in life

Sometimes we get so focused on wanting something, or expecting something of yourself, that we lose sight of what is important.

What is important is not always related to us directly, but it’s still significant. It has value. It makes you feel good about yourself.

By this I mean things like spending time with people who make you happy, doing things you enjoy, working on skills that bring satisfaction, and being productive with work – all these things contribute to making you feel relaxed and confident.

They help you feel better about yourself. They give you feelings of self-worth.

If someone else made a lot of money running a business, they would probably think most of them are lucky idiots, but also maybe just a little bit jealous. Because even though they may not have as much as they want, they have enough for everything they need.

Become an expert at it

how passion is important in life

Now that we have discussed what passion is, let’s talk about how to use it in your life. First, you need to know when it's appropriate to feel passionate.

When you feel passionate about something, do it! Whether it's reading a book you've been wanting to read for years or learning a new skill like painting, doing so makes you happier.

It is also important to recognize that not everyone will agree with your passions. This isn't a bad thing unless they are things that matter to you and your happiness depends on them - then they are worth fighting for.

I would say that passion is important in our lives because it makes us happy. And being more aware of its effects can help you identify which areas of your life are lacking true passion and possibly teach you how to create it.

Connect it with your life

how passion is important in life

Now, let’s look at how passion can help you achieve your dreams. I want to give you an example of something that took my friend Daria very hard to give up.

Daria has been working since she was 19 years old and she loves her job as a marketing manager. She likes making things for people and helping them reach their goals.

But she got into this career path by mostly feeling forced about it. Her father made her get this degree so she would have a good job, and then he told her what kind of job she should be having.

It wasn’t until later that she realized she wanted this career and felt passionate about it.

If we were to ask why she chose to work in marketing, it is because she connected it with her personal life. She spent time talking to people and understood how important communication is.

She also liked being creative and coming up with new strategies or ways to tell someone they cannot trust themselves with one product.

Do it consistently

how passion is important in life

Consistency is one of the most important things to know about passion. You need to be passionate about something for enough time for it to matter. If you’re just interested in doing something for a few minutes every now and then, that will probably not work as well.

You have to feel an intense desire to do it on a constant basis before it can make a difference in your life. And even then, if you are not feeling particularly enthusiastic at this moment, you must force yourself to do it anyway because it has worked before.

It takes some time to find what works for you and makes you feel happy, but don’t give up! Keep looking until you find it. Don’t expect to feel passionately about everything all the time, but try to put in an hour or two of effort several times per week and see what happens.

Become a pioneer of it

how passion is important in life

Now, let’s talk about how passion is important in life. First off, I would like to say that we can be passionate about almost anything. Just because you don’t feel much emotion while listening to music doesn’t mean that you are not passionate.

I will always remember my middle school teacher telling me that I was very passionate when it came to sports. All he could tell was that I was really focused on what I was doing.

He said that he never knew if I was going to walk out of class smiling or crying because I just didn’t seem to relate to anyone else.

That isn’t a bad thing though! He said that this intensity was something that I should strive for and keep working on until I could find a way to apply it towards other areas of my life.

Something that most people struggle with is being able to take time away from work to do things that they enjoy. It takes a lot of effort and self-control which aren’t easy to come by.

But if you want to live an emotional day to day life then you need to make room in your schedule to pursue activities that bring you joy.
