As mentioned before, interviewing is an integral part of any career. Whether you are applying for a position as a doctor, teacher or accountant, having strong interview skills will help you stand out from the competition.

Interviews can be tricky however, which is why there are only few people that have formal training on how to do them. Most employers feel that professional work experience is more important than classroom knowledge when it comes to hiring.

That being said, this article contains some easy ways to prepare for your next job interview. We will go over several types of interviews and what questions typically test on these topics. Then, we will talk about something that can sometimes get left out during employment interviews – the importance of self-confidence.

Focus on your passion

As we have discussed, being passionate about something is great, but it must be related to the job you want. If you are not sure if your passion lies in this field or that, try asking yourself what makes you feel excited, happy, and motivated when you do things.

These qualities can be transferred onto the work environment, so once you figure out which ones make you feel like these, then look into them!

It will help you determine whether this career is right for you. Also remember that while your passions should be relevant to the job, they need to be more than just a small part of the job- they should be strong enough to keep you engaged for the whole time you are there.

If you don’t know what your passion is, start looking into it and see what sparks an emotional response in you.

Connect with your interviewer

The first way to answer this question is by connecting with who the person asking the question is, and what they want from you. If their job seems important to them, then that will influence how much importance you place on yours.

Their position means something to them, which makes them feel passionate about it. They would like to see someone take over the job after them, so making sure you are ready for the position is key to getting the next step in your career!

By showing interest in their company, and demonstrating that you are willing to learn more about their field, you show passion for learning new things. This is an easy way to connect with people and boost your interpersonal skills.

Make a good impression

While being passionate about your career is great, it’s not enough if you don’t have any evidence of that passion displayed elsewhere. If you can’t show people that you are engaged with your field, then chances are they will not believe that you want what you claim to want.

So how do we know whether or not someone is really invested in their work? We look for things like engagement in conversations, collaborations, and responses to questions. When we see these markers, it usually gives us an indication whether or not we should trust this person’s statements.

These include things such as empty displays of wealth, frequent changes in position within the company, and lack of promotions because of low pay.

Be confident

Confidence is one of the most important things to know before you apply for a position. You do not have to be over-confident, but you should be comfortable with yourself and your skills.

If you are not sure about something, don’t worry! Most people aren’t perfect at their jobs, so it is okay to admit that you did not know everything immediately upon starting.

By being honest and humble, you will gain some valuable insights into what areas you need to work on and how to fix them. People may even admire your honesty.

Furthermore, confidence helps you feel relaxed and able to try new things. If you believe in yourself, then you are more likely to put effort into learning new things and achieving goals.

Tell them what you’ve done

The second way to approach this is by telling them what you have done. But don’t just tell them about your career, talk more about yourself and how you grew from that.

This can be as long or short as they ask for and if there are other questions beyond this one then skip it unless they ask.

But if they do ask this question, try not to get too detailed about your job because that could seem like bragging and even though it’s an interview it’s still okay to be a little modest sometimes!

Instead say something along the lines of ‘I worked at [insert company name] for so long and made such and such an amount per year’ or ‘I helped out with [insert project title] for so long and earned so much credit for my work’.

Be honest

As mentioned before, being passionate about something is great but it can also pose some problems if you are not able to control your passion. If this happens, then clearly you do not belong working for that company or position.

So, how would you know if someone does not seem like they are into their job? You may be able to tell by looking at them, but there is an easier way – asking them!

Ask direct questions such as “What are the things that you feel really passionately about at work?” or “What makes you proud of what you have done here?”

The answers to these questions will give you clues as to whether or not they seem invested in their career and/or the organization.

You want to make sure that you listen to their answer without getting distracted or changing the topic, but at the same time, you need to hear what they have to say.

If you get silence or vague answers, chances are high that they are no longer interested in pursuing their current career path and look for opportunities to move up the ladder.

Be friendly

It’s important to be friendly with your potential employer, as well as each other. If you’re having trouble answering their question, ask them if there is anything they would like you to talk about. This gives you a chance to shift the conversation away from the interview and onto you!

It also helps to emphasize how much you enjoy working for their company, and how you have enjoyed meeting some of their team members. Mentioning names can help convey this message.

Never forget that these are paying jobs and thus require motivation to keep performing. If you don’t feel motivated, chances are someone else does – why not look out for those people and get hired yourself?

Interviews should focus more on finding out whether or not you will contribute to the workplace and what kind of person you are than looking into what position you might fit into.
