As seen with many of our hairstyles, braiding is an easy way to achieve beautiful looks that require little-to no equipment. There are several types of braided hairstyles, but one of my favorite styles is called a passion twist! This style takes longer to create, but it’s so pretty and unique, and can be modified to look different every time you do it!
I first learned how to do this hairstyle in high school, and I always have a lot of fun doing them. They are tricky to do at times, though, as you need to make sure your braid isn’t coming undone. Luckily, there are some tips here for you to try out!
This article will teach you everything you need to know about how to do a perfect passion twist hairdo. Make sure to give yourself enough time to do these steps correctly before trying to put your new hairstyle into action.
Make a small section of hair into a braid
The next step in doing passion twist braids is making a small part of your hair into a beautiful, authentic braided hairstyle. This can be done with any number of styles, but our favorite way to do it is called an easy braid.
The easiest way to start this style is by taking one large chunk of hair and pulling it up through the middle of your scalp. Once it’s almost all the way up, pull the rest of the hair forward and roll it up like a regular braid.
Once you have that down, let yourself relax and enjoy the look! If needed, use some strong hairspray to keep it intact for later.
Divide the rest of your hair into sections
The next step is to divide up your hair in half by getting each section out. Make sure to pull through as many layers as possible, keeping them separate!
Once both top halves are done, it’s time to do something that may seem weird at first — passion twist braiding! This technique requires you to add more rollers or bobby pins as needed.
The key here is to make sure every strand is completely twisted and locked away before moving onto the next one. When rolling the second braid together, try to keep some of the starting curls intact so they don’t get lost.
Make a small section of hair into a French braids
The next hairstyle is called passion twist braids or Parisian braid. This can be done with any number of hairs that are gathered together.
In this case, we will gather about half a dozen soft curls together in one large circle. To make it more interesting, we will do it in two different colors!
To create these braids, start by gathering all your wanted length of hair up in a ponytail. Then take one piece of hair and pull it over an empty area of the scalp. Repeat for every color you want to add to the braid.
Once all four sections are tied off, use strong clips to connect them back onto each other. Make sure to change the order of the clippings to see how many patterns you made.
Divide the rest of your hair into sections
The next step in passion twist braiding is to divide up the other parts of your hair into appropriate section sizes. Depending on the length of your hair, you will want to have at least two small part layers or “twists” for every one large braid.
For example, if your hairstyle includes a full braid, then there should be an additional small braid directly underneath it! This creates the effect that the braid slightly overlaps the previous one. If this does not happen, it can look very messy.
As with any type of hairstyling, what size sections you use depends on your personal preference and how thick your own hair is.
Make a small section of hair into a Dutch braids
The next style is called a passion twist or Brazilian braid. This hairstyle is more complicated than its simpler sibling, the fishtail braid! It can be done with any color streaks, but it looks best when there are several shades in your hairs that match up correctly.
The trickier part about this one is keeping all of the sections aligned. If you have too many twists, they will look fuzzy and not smooth. Keep them tight, but not too tight- those muscles can grow tired!
To do this hairstyle, start off by dividing your hair into three equal parts from front to back. Then grab the middle chunk and pull it upward towards the center of your head. Now take the top piece and wrap it around the middle one, pulling upwards as you go. Repeat this process until you reach the crown of your head.
Now let go and watch the beautiful pattern develop! When it’s time to wash this out, don’t forget to protect each individual section with a plastic cap or clip.
Divide the rest of your hair into sections
The next step is to divide this long, beautiful section of hair in half. To do so, take one piece of hair and fold it down towards the middle. Then repeat with the second chunk of hair!
Once both sides are folded inwards, pull them up through the first layer of hair. Make sure to keep going until you have enough length to create a separate braid for each twist.
Now that you’ve got two braided pieces, connect them together using a clasp or pin. (If there is not a clear place to attach the pins, use small clips instead.)
Continue doing this until all the hairs are connected and you have a very pretty passion twist braid.
Make a small section of hair into a ripple braids
The next style is called passion twist braids or simply twisted braid. This hairstyle is similar to spiral braid, but instead of creating one big circle, there are many smaller circles that come together to make one larger circle.
The trick for this hairstyle is keeping all of the sections even and matching them perfectly. To create this look, you will need 1–2 sets per side (depending on your length) of large pieces and 2–4 sets of small pieces.
Divide the rest of your hair into sections
The next step is to divide your hair into as many sections as possible. This will depend on how long your hairstyle is and what size braids you want to make!
The more sections you have, the shorter it will take to complete the passion twist braid. It also helps to remember that longer hairs can get tangled easily, so keep some pieces slightly longer than others for easier grooming.
