Let’s look at another situation related to passion- why wouldn’t you want to work in an area that makes you passionate? We’ve already discussed how important it is to find your career passion, but what if you don’t have one yet?
We all need to eat, so we’re willing to work in any field to make money, however we should really be investing our time and energy into jobs we are truly passionate about. This will not only help us feel more fulfilled, but also improve our performance while working.
There was a study done where participants were asked to describe their job as “instrumental” (for example, teaching children) or “important because I love doing it” (research scientist). The researchers then measured the levels of cortisol, a hormone associated with stress, and analyzed whether changes in cortisol occurred during the tasks.
The results showed that both groups experienced similar amounts of cortisol before the task, but the research scientists had higher levels of cortisol after they completed the task than the teachers did!
Why would being paid less make someone do worse of a job? Because they're spending lots of time thinking about pay instead of education funding or environmental issues. They may even feel stressed out due to financial obligations.
This shows that even though students retain information better when being paid more, it can have negative effects on their performance.
Letting others know how you feel about your job is one of the most important things you can do as an employee. If their work is not up to par, then it could be because they don’t care about it or them!
If there are changes being made that will negatively affect individuals in the workplace, employees should let their superiors know how this affects them personally.
This may mean telling someone who makes too many decisions alone, or going above and beyond what is asked of you. It might also go into detail about why something needs to change.
It’s everyone’s responsibility to make sure that their colleagues have enough support when needed so that they can give their best performance every day.
As employers, we want our team members to enjoy coming to work and helping each other succeed. If they don’t, find out if they need help with personal issues at home first before looking for reasons at work.
