Finding your passion is not an easy thing to do, but it is possible. It will take work and dedication, but you can find it if you look for it.
There are many ways to know when you have found your passion. You may already have some clues, such as when you feel passionate about something, it shows. When you spend time looking forward to things that you enjoy, then you had found your passion.
It is very important to recognize this passion when you find it though. If you wait too long you may lose interest, so make sure you don’t keep checking out of things because you don’t feel like doing them anymore.
Reading different articles and listening to music or podcasts that appeal to you is a good way to determine what makes you feel passionate. This could be anything from exploring new genres to learning more about how to better yourself or other areas of life.
If you ever feel really passionate about something go into more detail about it and see what you learn! Compare what you learned with other people and see what resonates with you.
Take notes and evaluate whether these lessons made you feel excited for the subject or if they just sounded interesting.
Develop your passion
Now that you have determined what you like, you need to figure out how to make it work for you. You will not know if something is worth investing time in until you give it a try.
It’s hard to invest in things without first having invested in them. So when you want to spend money on something, you must be sure it is worth it. It can be difficult determining the value of something you have never used before, but there are ways to do so.
Most people agree that we get our basic needs met from food, shelter, and clothing. After this, most think that entertainment is the next important thing to have. But beyond these basics, what else should we focus on?
If you find no direct answer, then look at the books, movies, and TV shows you already enjoy. See if there are any themes or concepts behind them. Are they stories about success, love, or life?
These could help inspire you to create new passions.
Find your passion job
Finding your passion is like finding a piece of jewelry or clothing that you love and want to keep buying more of it every day. You know when someone has picked out their favorite shirt, necklace, or bracelet and they can’t stop wearing them.
That is what it takes for passion to be born.
You have to feel it in yourself before other people may agree with you. It is hard to believe that there was a time when you didn’t feel this way about something, but now you do. That is how it starts.
Now, don’t get me wrong here – working on things that you are passionate about will not make you enjoy what you are doing any more -– if you find something boring, drop it!
But once you have found something that you truly want to do, then it becomes easier to take orders from it and to put in the effort needed to succeed. This feeling grows as you invest more into it.
Finding your passion isn’t just knowing one thing really well, it is investing in the knowledge of that one thing and learning new things related to it.
It is exploring different aspects of it so that you learn as much as possible. And it is having conversations about it with others who also seem inspired by it.
And above all, it is keeping an eye on those close to you who work in the area and seeing whether they too feel the same way.
Ask yourself what you would do if you knew you could do it
Even though we sometimes think we know what we want, we usually don’t. We get so focused on needing that thing and feeling like it will make us happy that we forget to ask ourselves whether or not we can actually do it.
We also tend to focus only on the benefits of having the thing we desire, instead of considering the costs. For example, maybe being famous makes you feel good, but is there enough money in it for you? Are your relationships improving because of this new status, or are people giving up on you as they struggle to work with you?
It takes some effort to consider these questions, but once you do you may find that you aren’t really looking for what you thought you were. You may discover that you just don’t care about the things you assumed you wanted.
Believe in yourself
Finding your passion is not about having an empty bucket that you can pour everything into, it’s more like having a pool of water where you can drown or swim. It depends on what kind of person you are!
It's easy for people with strong self-confidence to suggest diving in and trying new things, but for most of us we don't take enough time to learn how to trust ourselves. We talk too much about what we want and need from other people, but never truly understand our own needs and desires.
We're also very often scared of failing so we avoid taking risks and investing energy in things that may not work out. This way, we keep ourselves from being content and we prevent ourselves from finding true happiness.
Trusting yourself takes practice, but I hope you will try eventually. Don't worry, you're not alone! There are many ways to learn how to believe in yourself, and doing so will help you find your passion and live a happy life.
Start by believing in yourself just for one minute - every day. Then repeat this process several times a week, and soon you'll be spending lots of time learning and practicing how to believe in yourself.
Stay positive
Let’s look at an example. Suppose you want to lose weight, so you decide to give exercise a try. You pick something you have been avoiding – swimming – and once a week you do your laps.
Now, this is not necessarily the worst thing in the world, but let’s look at what happens next.
Most people who swim feel tired afterwards. That’s normal! If you were just awake then it makes sense that you would be slightly sluggish, but within half an hour everything should be back into gear.
Unfortunately, for some people this isn’t the case. For them, diving into the water removes all their energy. It can make them feel exhausted, depressed even. This doesn’t help when they wanted to get out of bed already!
So, how can we prevent this? We cannot change ourselves outside of our own actions, but by being aware we can avoid setting off this reaction too often. By being conscious enough, we may be able to avoid doing anything more than taking a short break instead.
Do not get discouraged
Finding your passion is hard, it takes time, and it can feel like you’re wasting your life. It may even feel like people are trying to stop you from realizing your dream.
That’s why it’s so important to not give up. You have to believe in yourself more than anyone else does, which will keep you motivated.
If you ever find that you don’t want to do something anymore, take a break! Stop what you’re doing for one week and see how you feel then. If you still want to pursue your dreams, go ahead, but if you don’t, at least you tried.
It’s a cliché saying, but true – “you won’t know where your journey will take you.”
Finding your passion means letting go of things you thought you wanted and going after those that make you happy instead. It’s about discovering what makes you happy and pursuing it with all your heart.
No matter who you are or what you enjoy doing, there’s always another way to achieve your goal. There’s always someone less successful than you who did just that. So never forget to look within yourself for answers.
There’s no better lesson in life than this one: No matter how hard you try, you will not succeed without putting in any effort at all.
Try to be creative
Even if you don’t feel like doing something, you should at least try it out. If you're not into painting, then do some watercolors or oil paintings! You could take up sculpture if you never have before. Or how about taking lessons in violin or piano?
There are limitless ways to find your passion. No matter what field you choose, as long as you are passionate about it, people will admire you for it.
And while it may sound cliché, true passion comes only from within. It is not learned, but natural. So why not look around you and see what you can add to this already plentiful supply of passions?
If nothing strikes you, go and do something that does! There's no use being stuck for life because you didn't try enough things.
Challenge yourself
Finding your passion is not about choosing a career that gives you a feeling or making an effort to learn more about it, it’s being asked to do things outside of your comfort zone.
It’s going beyond what you already know in order to see how well you handle it. It’s taking risks and opportunities that may not pay off immediately but could help you achieve your bigger goals.
If you want to pursue your dreams, you have to be willing to take some lumps along the way. You will fail sometimes, which is okay! Because you are trying, you are working towards something important to you, so keep doing your best even when you don’t feel like it.
You will find what you were looking for if you work hard enough. Don’t expect instant results, but don’t give up either. Keep learning, keep trying, keep exploring.
Your life will never be completely calm and steady, but you will find ways to deal with whatever comes next by using your skills and knowledge.
