When using passion fruit, you want to make sure that there are no additives in it. Some brands add sugar or gelatin to help preserve the juice of the fruit. These additions may not taste good nor will they aid in health benefits of the pulp and gel.
Passion fruits are in season from May to August, so grab some while supplies last! They can be dried and added into tea or recipes, or made into purées or juices.
This article will teach you how to use fresh passion fruit properly! If you would like more information about adding passion fruit powder or pureed pieces into foods or drinks, check out our recipe section. We have suggestions for both. You can also find many recipes with passion fruit in them online and at cookbooks.
There are three parts to this article, so dive in and learn something new! Part one covers why passion fruit is important to know, part two teaches you how to cut down the hard white seeds, and part three takes away any leftover passion fruits.
Look for fresh passion fruit
The process of using passion fruits is not complicated, but you do need to look out for quality products. Make sure your passion fruit comes from natural sources as chemical fertilizers are often added to make them more appealing to buyers.
If there are brown spots or dark dots on the skin of the passion fruit, then these should be removed as they contain trace amounts of acid that could potentially affect the mouth feel of the drink.
You can either use a spoon to scoop out the pulp or cut it in half and pull apart using your fingers. Once you have extracted all of the juice, rinse the peel off under running water to remove any residual taste.
Peel passion fruit
The most tedious part of using passion fruits is actually removing their skin! To do this, either use your hand or place it in a bowl filled with water. Press each piece of fruit against the peel as you pull it off, or use a spoon to scoop out the pulp and then wash that away in the water.
Once you have removed the skin, add the seeds to the pulp if desired. You can now rinse the peeled passion fruit and dry it off, or eat it right away if you like its taste!
If you are having trouble getting rid of all of the juice, we recommend placing the passion fruit in an empty glass bottle and squeezing some of the liquid from it later. Make sure to cover the top of the bottle so that none of the moisture gets wasted.
Try making passion fruit juice
This delicious tropical drink can be made from either fresh or dried passion fruits depending on whether you have access to them at a store or need to prepare ahead. If using dried fruits, make sure to soak them in water for several hours before adding them to the liquid you will use to mix your passion drinks.
Passion berries are the fuzzy round fruit that grow on the vine plants of the kiwi family. When they are in season, their sweet flavor makes it possible to create many different types of passion beverages!
You can eat the whole berry, but only if you like strong flavors. Because the seeds contain a compound called acai, eating just the berries may not taste as good. Luckily, there is no need to remove the seeds!
When preparing the pulp for the beverage, try rubbing it through a strainer or spoon to avoid breaking down the fibers too much. You want some texture for the drink to feel smooth.
Drinking one glass of freshly mixed passion juice every day can increase the health benefits you get from this tasty treat.
Use passion fruit in recipes
Many people add passion fruits to yogurt or use them as an ingredient in beverages like acai bowls and smoothies. They can also be eaten alone, though they are not very popular that way!
Passion fruits contain lychee pieces and sweet flavor agents such as glucose and fructose. These components combine into one powerful compound called arginine.
Arginine is a natural chemical found in some foods (suchas meat) and supplements (such as citrulline). It helps promote blood circulation and strengthens your immune system.
Experts believe ingesting enough arginine may help reduce symptoms of depression and improve quality of life. Because it acts as a mood enhancer, experts call it a supplement for mental health.
You can find dried passion fruits at most grocery stores. Simply soak them in water until they rehydrate and mix them into your favorite recipe or drink.
Use passion fruit extract
Recent studies show that ingesting passion flower extracts can help reduce stress, improve mood, and promote sleep. It also works as an effective natural appetite suppressant!
Passion flowers come from tropical climates where they grow in abundance. They are grown for their beauty as well as their leaves and fruits.
The most popular way to use passion flower is as a tea or tincture. You can either make it yourself or find a powder version that has been prepared already.
Making your own tea or tincture requires using the correct proportions of dried passion flower parts and liquid. This article will tell you how to do this!
Hopefully you will be happy with what passion flower does for you and wanted to try it out for yourself.
Mix passion fruit into your smoothie
Adding passion fruits to your diet is a great way to add some flavor and nutritional value to your drinks. They are known for their tangy taste, which goes well with most things!
Passion fruits grow in clusters of around 10–20 individual berries that combine to make one large berry. Each berry has its own separate color and flavor. The colors range from white to pale pink to deep red, and they all have unique aromas as well.
These beryls contain several vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, B6, C, magnesium, potassium, iron, and zinc. They also pack quite a bit of antioxidants[1].
Mixing them into your drink or eating them separately can be done directly or through recipes.
Try making a passion fruit butter
What is passion fruit butter? Passion fruit butter is simply made of pure coconut milk mixed with one whole fresh or dried passion fruits. When mixing the two, make sure you mash the seeds in so they do not end up in your final product!
Passion fruit butter can be spread onto toast, used as an ingredient in some recipes (like baking) or just plain melted and spread onto your food or loved ones’s food! It is also very nutritious and rich in vitamins A and C, magnesium and potassium.
Many people add extra flavorings like cinnamon, cardamom or nut extracts to taste. These additions are totally optional!
If you would rather have something less tropical, then no worries! You can still make this recipe without using passion fruits! Just use 100% sunflower oil instead of olive oil, and cocoa powder in place of lemon juice.
Add to salads
Another way to use passion fruit is in your salad. All you have to do is add it into the dressing of your choice and mix together! If you like more sweet flavors, then use plain olive oil or vegetable-based oils as your dressings and blend in one cup of dried passion fruits along with some honey.
This would go well in lunch time snacks or even dinner if made ahead. It can be stored at room temperature for up to a week until consumed. You can also pour it onto foods while serving them, just make sure they will cook down slightly in the oven or under a broiler.
