Passion Rate

January 2, 2023

Have you ever noticed that some people seem to burn with passion for things? They show such strong, consistent interest in something – whether it is sports, hobbies, or their career - that they never stop talking about it nor do they seem to lose focus of what they are doing.

This kind of person is passionate about what they care about. It can be because they are passionately interested in sports teams, cars, or music, so they spend time listening to those types of things.

It can also be due to a job or career that they pursue with intensity. Or maybe it’s just the way they carry themselves; they have a presence people are drawn to. All these traits contribute to making them known as someone who has an appetite for life.

There is a reason why this type of person is always busy and engaged with everything around them. They enjoy spending time exploring new ideas and concepts, and sharing that knowledge with others.

Having a career or hobby that you love means you will keep coming back to it, which is what makes success possible. Keep seeking out experiences and learning new things and you will find yourself enjoying what you do.

Now here’s your chance to check off one of the three reasons mentioned above! If you have a talent that could lead to income, then investing in training (or even starting) freelancing or small business services is a smart move.

Definition of passion

passion rate

What is passion? The dictionary defines it as “a strong feeling or desire; enthusiasm for something”. That sounds about right!

But there’s more to it than that.

A few years ago, Stanford University conducted an in-depth research study to get deeper insights into what makes someone feel passionate about their job. They interviewed over 1,000 people across various industries (including teachers, software engineers, office workers, and others) to determine how much passion individuals displayed at work.

Their findings revealed three key traits all powerful job passions share with other important things in your life — relationships, family, and health.

This comes as no surprise given that most professionals today have limited personal time due to the demands of work. But when you invest enough time in those who are close to you, they will remember and reciprocate that investment.

And well being–physical, emotional, and mental – depends on each one of these areas.

Finding ways to add value to the lives of those around you and investing in your own self-care will reap benefits you can’t expect to receive anywhere else. This includes giving up some amount of money you might be earning, sacrificing vacation days, and even foregoing career changes and new experiences unless you are truly motivated by this thing.

Your passion is what you do best

Even if you’re not very good at something, it can still make a big difference to your success. For example, even though I cannot draw well, my illustrations have made a significant impact on my career as a writer.

My style has earned me many compliments, and my drawing skills have helped bring attention to myself and my books.

If you are passionate about something, then you will usually try hard to succeed. You will put in the effort needed to achieve your goal, which makes it easier for you to keep going when you hit challenges.

It also helps you feel better about yourself, because you know that you worked really hard to earn your success.

What is the best way to find your passion?

Finding your passion isn’t about knowing what you want to be when you grow up, it’s not going after things that make you feel happy for a few minutes every now and then, and it’s definitely not spending all of your time listening to messages telling you that you don’t have a passion.

Finding your passion takes more than just doing those things, it requires working hard at it every day. It’s having repeated experiences of success, and feeling excited and motivated when you are trying to achieve your goal.

It’s understanding that passions come in bursts, sometimes years apart, and while they may seem fleeting they are also powerful – they can change your life!

There will be times when you won’t know what you love, but that doesn’t mean you give up. You figure out something new you like, and eventually you hit upon something that sticks.

Always believe there is a way

A lot of people have a passion they are passionate about. They love what they do, they feel good when they are doing it, and they get motivated by other people to keep practicing their craft or developing their skills.

But not everyone has this kind of passion for creating and teaching others. In fact, we’d probably all agree that most people don’t really like helping other people much at all.

I mean, think about it – how many times have you heard someone say something like “You know, I could never be a teacher because I couldn’t bear to tell my students ‘no’?” Or maybe you’ve ever met an accountant who can’t wait to take credit cards away from small businesses and give them to big corporations.

Or how about the nurse who loves sticking her hand in open wounds? The lawyer who can’t stop telling terrible jokes to his friends? These professionals may not like what they do, but they find ways to make money at it.

Most people don’t have this work ethic.

Get rid of things that hold you back

Now, let’s talk about something really important: how to increase your passion rate.

The first step in increasing your passion rate is to get rid of anything that holds you back.

This could be a person, place or thing. It could be due to fear or lack of confidence, it could be because they make you feel bad or poor, it could be expensive, and so on.

Whatever it is, it needs to go!

Breaking up with someone can be one of the hardest things you will ever do, but if there's no hope for success then there's no reason to keep going. If you've tried everything and nothing has worked, then it's time to start looking for alternatives.

If you're struggling to motivate yourself to exercise, maybe try another sport instead? If you struggle to find motivation at work, explore other jobs that offer more satisfaction. The same goes for hobbies and skills- learn ones that leave you feeling happy and confident.

Getting out of this rut requires making changes, which may not always be easy, but true change usually is.

Do not be afraid to try new things

Let’s look at an example of something that seems impossible.

What is this? It's a boat!

It has sails, it can be rowed, and it requires no electricity for propulsion.

This thing goes really fast when you're in a hurry to get somewhere, and it looks cool.

It was built by a guy named Peter Rugg, and he designed it to do one thing; go as far and as fast as possible.

That guy sure knows how to have fun with his boats!

His boat design inspired him to create another type of boat, which he called The Racing Boat. This boat design quickly caught on, and now there are many different designs using his template.

The best racing boats use a propeller instead of a sail like Pete’s original boat. A rudder helps control direction, but they are mostly wasted because most racers don't need them.

A more efficient way to propel this boat would be through water jets. These work by pumping water out of the back of the hull at high speeds so that momentum carries the boat forward.

These days, people modify the standard boat jet types to fine tunes.

Find out what you really like

Let’s look at another example to make this clear. Suppose you want to be a professional football player. You can't become professional unless you are selected in a national team or league as one of their players.

But being picked as a footballer is not enough - you have to prove yourself as a professional player by showing your talent on the field during games, practicing ahead of play times, and staying fit.

And even if all that is matched with a talented person, there is still one more thing that makes a difference: motivation. It's hard for people with us to believe, but some people just don’t seem to care about things they should.

Footballers who lack passion in themselves cannot inspire passion in others. This is why most professionals suffer from low performance levels – they don’t feel motivated to give their best every time they show up at the stadium.

Develop your skills

Now that you know what makes someone passionate about something, it’s time to use those talents for yourself.

If you are not happy with your current job, it's time to look into other opportunities. If you're unhappy with your life in general, it's time to make changes.

You have to be willing to take risks and put in effort to achieve your dreams. You will have to work hard, but your efforts will pay off in the end.

Everyone is different when it comes to passion and career preferences. What works for one person may not work for another. But if you are curious as to why certain things appeal to them and seem to leave a lasting impression, you can learn from their process.

By observing their actions, emotions, and reactions, you can get some tips for developing your own passions and hobbies.
