As we continue to see in the news, teamwork is no longer an option it is a necessity. With workplace environments becoming increasingly casual and informal, there are now very little opportunities for true team building.
Since the 1970’s, team-building exercises have become one of the most common tools used in organizational development (OD). Companies spend large sums of money on these activities every year, with some even offering discounts if you attend several events as part of your job!
Team building can be expensive, however, which may limit its availability to only the top performing teams or departments.
This article will discuss how you can do your own team building for free by engaging in some simple practices and tasks. At the end, you will know how to organize a game night, create brainstorming sessions, and/or conduct group discussions.

Teambuilding exercises such as going swimming or hiking together are more active breaks that may be better if you aren’t quite ready to leave the office yet. These are good opportunities to discuss issues and how well everyone gets along.
If someone wants to stay in then it can be hard to get them back into the work environment so these needs to be considered.
