What Are Some Good Habits To Develop

The Idea Trader is dedicated to spreading interesting ideas and current news to readers and interested parties. This blog contains opinions and insights for ideas and investment opportunities and is not intended as advice for investing.
You may not know it, but these habits are easier than you think to develop. There are steps that you can take to develop good habits.
By starting on this track, you are a step closer to creating a lifestyle that will help you become more productive.
Reduce your technology usage
Technology is a great tool for being productive, but as we all know, it can also be a huge distraction.
One simple thing to reduce distractions is to reduce your screen time. How many of us look at our phones every ten minutes just to check things?
According to Cal Newport in his TED talk: Distracted by Distraction: The New Psychology of Getting Things Done, most people only look at their phones about ten minutes per day.
There are two main reasons for this: Our attention span is a little short, and our brains crave novelty. When we have too much information to keep our attention, we are going to lose it eventually.
But the small screens that we have don’t allow us to see all of the information that we are being shown.
This increases our anxiety and causes us to lose interest. Studies show that even looking at television screens is bad for you, as it has been proven to increase stress and anxiety, and even decrease your attention span.
When you look at your phone, all you are doing is taking a break from whatever task you are currently doing. You are not getting anything done.
The best way to reduce your screen time is to install a web browser window so that you can keep an eye on all of your favorite sites at all times.
Many great tools allow you to install Chrome Extensions to stay connected to all of the sites that you have bookmarked.
The second thing that you can do to reduce the amount of time that you spend on your phone is to not answer it.
This is a big one. Having your phone ringing is going to cause you to look at it, which is always a bad thing. If someone wants to reach out to you, they are more than welcome to call.
If you are in a meeting or at a friend’s house, answer your phone, but as soon as you can, put it on vibrate or turn it off.
If you do answer it, be considerate. Don’t interrupt the person you are talking to take the call. They will get back to you if you are busy.
Ask yourself “Why am I doing this?”
By asking yourself why you are doing what you are doing, you are going to help you focus on the task at hand.
When you ask yourself why you are doing something, you are starting to think about the whole picture, and you are avoiding having tunnel vision.
The more you focus on what you are doing, the less you will get distracted by other activities.
So, when you are reviewing something, ask yourself “why am I doing this?” and “what value am I adding to this?”
If you are reviewing marketing materials, ask yourself “why are we doing this?” and “what value am I adding to this?”
If you are designing a website for your business, ask yourself “why am I doing this?” and “what value am I adding to this?”
This is a great question to ask yourself. You can always ask yourself why you are doing something over and over again.
There will be times when you can’t think of an answer, and then you can move on to the next question.
Get into the flow state
You may be familiar with the quote by Solomon Maxwell, “I need a plane to be vertical when I begin the trip.
I need a boat to be vertical when I reach the shore. I need an airplane to be vertical when it lands.”
Most people try to force themselves to get into a flow state, which is similar to being relaxed but is usually easier said than done.
If you find yourself on the verge of getting frustrated, it might be time to turn down your phone, stop thinking about the task at hand, and let the universe guide you to the answer.
Your subconscious will do all of the work for you if you stop trying to control it. Give it a chance, and all of the sudden you will get what you are looking for.
Even if you are stuck on a puzzle, you will be able to focus much easier if you switch to one of the techniques that we just covered.
Try one of these tricks, and then when you are stuck, try another. You may have better luck than you expected.
Reduce phone usage
Taking steps to reduce the amount of time that you spend on your phone is definitely not an easy task.
However, the more that you know about what is going on, and how you can improve your overall level of performance, the easier it will be for you to get back on track.
