What Are Some Good Morning Routines

March 25, 2021

When we wake up, there are so many things going on in our heads that it is difficult to even begin to think straight.

With all that going on it is important to begin our day with a focus on health and well-being.

So what are some good morning routines to follow?

What are some habits that will help to improve your day-to-day life, while improving your mood and outlook?

How to start a morning routine

I'm going to give you the best tip that I've ever heard about starting a morning routine: create a list of things to do the night before.

This gives you time to think about the things you want to get done in the morning.

When I was in treatment, my list consisted of a few things. Each morning when I woke up, I knew exactly what I had to do.

Now, I have much more important things to do in my day, so I don't have the time to spend on things like planning my daily routine.

But it's not that bad. There's a way to have an orderly life and still have time for other things.

It's called creating an "assignments file." I just print out a calendar and assign each week a certain type of list for the week, such as doing laundry or cooking dinner.

When it's time for me to do one of the assigned tasks, I can look at my calendar and know exactly what I'm supposed to do.

Meditation

If you do not have time to sit and practice meditation each morning, just start by keeping a mindfulness notebook and recording things you are grateful for.

Make a list of things that you have accomplished, a list of people and places that you have loved, and what you would like to do that day.

Setting goals

Set a goal and do your best to achieve it.

If you have an article to write, set a time to get your words down, and then when you sit down in the morning at your desk, you can focus on writing the next article you need to write.

A morning shower

A shower is always a good idea for a morning activity.

It is not uncommon to start a day off feeling a little lethargic and needing to wake up.

A shower and getting your body cleaned and feeling clean can help to have you feeling energized as you head off to the day's activities.

Exercise

Do you enjoy working out? If you do, then try to incorporate it into your morning routine.

You can try to walk to work, or if that is not feasible, try to ride a bicycle instead.

If you do not have a bike, then try to jog or jog to work and then try to do the same back home again.

Flaxseed

Make sure you eat a flax seed breakfast. If you have not tried flax seed, then it is time you did.

Flax seeds are a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids and help to improve your mental health as well as make you feel calmer and focused.

They also have other benefits such as helping you to increase your immune system and provide you with an energy boost.

If you do not have access to flax seeds, you can simply buy them in a health food shop.

Healthy breakfast

A healthy breakfast does a body good. If you have a bad stomach, then a heavy breakfast may make it worse.

Keep it light, nutritious and make it enjoyable by preparing some scrambled eggs, have some fruits such as bananas or strawberries, have a protein-based breakfast bowl such as eggs, or you could even try some sweet potatoes.

A deeper sleep

Most of us need to get up at some point during the day, and for most of us, this is the most difficult part of the day.

You could try to get a nap in or read a book and get some reading in but a deep sleep will also help with how you feel in the morning.

If you do not have the luxury of a nap in the day, then try to make it a point to get to bed earlier.

You should try to go to bed at around 10 PM each night, and then if you need to stay up later that night, try to get to bed at midnight.

Why morning routines are important

If you spend a little bit of time planning your morning routines, then you will see a difference.

If you begin to have a more focused and attentive way of getting ready for the day, then you will start to feel more productive throughout the day.

If you find that your mood and outlook are better, then you will find that you can approach the day with less stress and anxiety.

Not all routines need to take place in the morning, you could do it during your lunch hour or in the evening if you work overnight.

It is just important that you take the time to plan your routine and that you do it consistently each day.

If you can stick to a routine for a few weeks, then you may start to get more work done each day as a result.
